Migraine Causes and Home Remedies

Migraine has become a major health concern, affecting more than ten people out of every hundred. A migraine headache is a severe headache with sensory warning signs such as blind spots, nausea, vomiting, light flashes, and enhanced sensitivity to sound and light.

When you have a migraine occurrence, the pain in your brow rises, and your headache may worsen if you stay in the sun for an extended period of time. A throbbing pain is also possible. With each pulse, the ache rises, and it may spread to the same side's neck and shoulder. A headache usually lasts two to three hours, however it can even last two to three days in the worst situations.

In Ayurveda, this disease is referred to as Sooryavarta, where soorya refers to the sun and avarta refers to a blockage or sickness. Excessive stress of the blood vessels and brain causes it.

According to Ayurveda, there are several causes of migraine.

  1. Consumption of foods that are excessively greasy, spicy, or salty
  2. Longer periods of time spent in the sun
  3. Natural desires are suppressed.
  4. Excessive worry
  5. Stomach upset
  6. Abuse of alcohol or cigarettes
  7. Psychological or physical tension
  8. Caffeine intake is abruptly stopped (in the form of tea or coffee)
  9. Fasting
  10. Hormonal changes, particularly during periods or as a result of long-term birth control pill use
  11. Sleep patterns change

Certain meals have been shown to cause migraine attacks. Processed foods, dairy products, baked foods, fermented foods, peanuts, onion, and heavy-to-digest meat are examples of foods that promote a sudden increase in the pitta or kaphadosha.

Migraine Treatments at Home

A migraine can be controlled with some simple home treatments in the early stages. Here are several examples:

  1. Almonds and raisins are high in antioxidants. Each night, soak five to six raisins and almonds and eat them the next morning. You can even drink the water that you used to soak them in.
  2. To get the fresh juice from Doorva grass, take a handful and combine it. Mix in a pinch of licorice powder to the juice completely. This solution should be consumed every afternoon for a month. This will improve in the lessening of the illness's severity.
  3. In a cup of water, mix a teaspoon of coriander seed powder. Allow it to sit overnight. On an empty stomach, drink it the next morning.
  4. Migraine relief can also be found in the fresh and soft leaves of jasmine or pomegranate. To create fresh juice, crush the leaves well and combine with a touch of salt. Early in the morning, put two to three drops of this juice in your nostrils, preferably on an empty stomach.

Migraines are a painful health problem, and prevention is always preferable to treatment. Here are some suggestions for preventing migraines.

  • Don't put yourself under too much strain.
  • Keep a consistent sleep schedule and get enough rest (seven to eight hours).
  • Tea and coffee consumption should be cut back.
  • Walking for 10 minutes in the morning in the fresh air will make you feel more energised.
  • Whenever possible, stay away from hot foods.
  • Cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and pepper should all be part of your daily diet.
  • While using electronic devices, reduce the brightness of the screen.
  • When you're outside in the sun, wear sunglasses.
  • You can avoid this severe situation by living a disciplined lifestyle.
